The free program teaches users how to monitor their skin and know when to see their doctor, using a series of instructions, an interactive photo bank and a reminder service.
The app was released on Thursday to coincide with the launch of Know Your Own Skin, an initiative doctors hope will encourage Aussies to monitor their skin more closely.
The campaign, backed by dermatologists, points to figures showing two thirds of Australians aged 40 and older don?t regularly get their skin checked by a doctor.
While 96 per cent of respondents to a 2010 Kantar Health survey said they checked their blood pressure and 80 per cent checked their cholesterol each year, just 32 per cent regularly checked their body?s largest organ ? their skin.
Two in three Australians are diagnosed with skin cancer before the age of 70, figures show.
Dr Stephen Shumack, a dermatologist from Sydney?s Royal North Shore Hospital, urged people to ask their doctors to include a skin check as part of a routine check-up, as everyone was at risk of developing sun-related skin conditions.
?All Australians are at risk of developing sun-damage related skin conditions, due to our past sunbathing habits and the inevitable exposure we all get to the suns UV rays,? Dr Shumack said.
